Reasons To Quit Smoking. Quit Smoking Guide

Can Stop Smoking Medications Provide the Answer?

Oftentimes, the search for a cure, be it via drugs, medicines or other quit smoking therapy that will finally allow smokers to quit the habit for good can be fraught with difficulty and frustration. To be sure, there are many supposed medications, treatments and anti smoke products on the market which is supposed to stop the craving for cigarettes so you would think that it would only be a simple matter of finding the right one for stopping.

The harsh reality of it though is that of all the treatment methods out there that make this claim, very few of them have actually been proven to work.

There is however a bright light in this bleak landscape and that is provided by the various stop smoking medications that have recently been introduced to the public. These formulations have by and large shown the most potential for success out of all the smoking cessation methods around.

The key to the success of these stop smoking medications seems to lie in its unique approach to the age old problem of nicotine dependence. While more traditional methods have relied on the controlled ingestion of nicotine in the hopes that the dose would gradually be lessened until the smoker stops by themselves, these new breeds of stop smoking medications do away with the nicotine entirely. They instead contain an ingredient–or a combination thereof–that mimics the effect that nicotine has on the receptors in the brain, but without the harmful effects.

Some other stop smoking medications go a bit further and cause a reduction in the pleasurable effects that smokers experience from the habit. In this manner, the pleasurable association that they have from smoking is effectively broken and with that gone; the smoker will eventually give up the habit on his own. This is quite a revolutionary approach to the quit smoking problem and it is very likely that any future developments in the battle to fight nicotine dependence will focus on this particular methodology.

It is clear that with the introduction of stop smoking medications, some very real headway is finally being made in the area of smoking cessation and that is much welcome news for smokers everywhere. A word of warning though: while stop smoking medications have produced the most significant success rate of all the treatment methods and products currently available, you are still not assured of a 100% success rate. Some smokers have only managed to avoid the habit for a few weeks or a few months before going back to smoking once again, while some users have not even had the privilege of this relief. This may paint quite a discouraging picture for the prospect of stop smoking medications, but in any case, the search goes on for a lasting, effective and permanent cure without side-effects to stop cigarette and tobacco dependency, and we can only hope that the situation gets better from here.
