Today it seems that the most potentially positive results lie in the various stop smoking drugs out on the market. Compared to other methods that have been introduced throughout the years, stop smoking drugs appear to hold the most promise as far as providing a long lasting and permanent treatment to the problem is concerned.
Many of the other more traditional methods of helping smokers give up the habit rely on the controlled introduction of nicotine into the body. Some of these products are commonly sold in the form of nicotine gums, nicotine patches and nicotine hand gels among other medication. The underlying methodology behind these methods is that cutting off the supply of nicotine to a system that has been so accustomed to receiving it on a regular basis is just too drastic and that the chances of a successful cessation using this method would be extremely low. While these methods have admittedly resulted in a few instances of cessation, the success rate has been fairly insignificant and of those who had managed to quit smoking, the occurrence of relapse was alarmingly high. One explanation for this is that the brain’s association with the pleasurable of nicotine has not been addressed at all therefore the need to have that daily nicotine fix is still existent.
Most stop smoking drugs on the other hand do not rely on nicotine as an ingredient at all. Some stop smoking medicine's instead use a combination of natural chemicals that effectively mimic the effects of nicotine on the brain, but with none of the addictive effects. In this way the nicotine reliance is ended and after a few weeks of taking the stop smoking drug the user does not feel the need for the nicotine fix any longer. Most stop smoking drug's require a prescription to purchase, but can be obtain either at a pharmacy or online.
Yet another method used by stop smoking drug's is reducing or even totally eliminating the pleasurable effects that smokers get from smoking. If the smoker no longer feels the “benefits” of smoking, then it is not likely that he or she will continue the habit for long.
The search for a permanent and lasting cure for nicotine addiction goes on and likely will for the next foreseeable future. But for now, stop smoking drugs appear to hold the most potential for the greater majority of test subjects and are not further away than the nearest pharmacy.
