Early Symptoms Of Lung Cancer Should Be Taken Seriously

If you have any risk factors for lungcancer and begin noticing any symptoms that make you ill at ease, it would be a good idea to talk to your family doctor. The number one risk factor for lung cancer is cigarette smoking.

Other risk factors include smoking cigars or marijuana, having exposure to asbestos, talc or other minerals, and having a family history of pulmonary disease.

The earlier cancers are detected, the more curable it is. If you have any of those risk factors, it should be very important for you to be able to recognize the early symptoms of lung cancer so that your doctor would be able to start treatment as soon as possible.

The most common early symptoms of lung cancer include shortness of breath and a cough that persists or becomes more intense. If any cough last more than two weeks you should contact your doctor. Increases of sputum, a change in the color of the sputum, or couching up blood are all very serious signs as well. Walking unsteadily and memory loss can be important systems that are often missed until they have reached serious levels.

Some less common early symptoms of lung cancer that can cause issues that don't immediately lead to the detection of the cancer - include asthma kind of fatigue, loss of energy, aching joints, headaches, and even unexplained weight loss. If these symptoms persist for any amount of time, a doctor's visit is imperative.

Whatever your symptoms, it is important that you listen to what your body is telling you. Ignoring aches and pains until they are unbearable can cause more problems than you can deal with. Putting off a visit to the doctor or having a check-up or test taken care of can cost you more than you think. In the case of lung cancer, late detection could cost you your life. Getting the diagnosis of any disease, be it lung related or not, at an earliest possible stage, radically increase the effects of any treatment and therefore the chances of a positive outcome.

If the diagnosis is lung cancer the treatment of the lungs will commonly be surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation therapy or a combination of these.
A side note: The lung is a common place for metastasis from tumors in other parts of the body. These cancers are identified by the site of origin, thus a breast cancer metastasis to the lung is still known as breast cancer.
